Can I Use EGT17™ With Ulcer Medication?
The Short Answer
Yes. EGT17™ can be fed alongside gastric ulcer medications such as omeprazole (GastroGard/AbGard). The two products work in different parts of the digestive system and do not interfere with each other.
How They Differ
Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that reduces acid production in the stomach. Its target is the foregut.
EGT17™ provides digestive enzymes, primarily amylase, that work in the small intestine, downstream of the stomach. The enzymes support starch digestion in the duodenum and jejunum.
Timing Considerations
If your horse is on omeprazole, follow your veterinarian's dosing instructions for that medication (typically administered on an empty stomach, 30 to 60 minutes before feeding). EGT17™ is added to the feed itself. The two products are administered at different times and work in different locations.
A Note on Veterinary Advice
EGT17™ is a nutritional supplement, not a medication. It does not treat, cure, or prevent gastric ulcers. If your horse has been diagnosed with or is being treated for gastric ulcers, continue to follow your veterinarian's treatment plan.
